Sharing National Hispanic Heritage Month with Friends

Discovering something new is always an exciting experience, and that's exactly how I felt when I first learned about Hispanic Heritage Month. Growing up, I had never heard of this celebration before, and I was surprised to learn that it had been observed in the United States for over 50 years. I couldn't help but wonder if I had missed out on something this important all these years.

However, instead of dwelling on the past, I chose to focus on what I could do in the present to celebrate and honor this special occasion. I decided to educate myself more about the history and significance of Hispanic Heritage Month and to share this knowledge with others.

One way I chose to do this was by learning how to make homemade tortillas, a staple food in many Latinx cultures. I found a recipe online, gathered the necessary ingredients, and set out to make my first batch. It wasn't perfect, but it was a start. I bought a few gorgeous tortilla warmers from a local Etsy shop, made some tortillas, and shared those with some friends.

Through this experience, I realized that it's never too late to learn something new and to appreciate and celebrate the diversity of our communities. By taking small steps, like learning to make homemade tortillas or supporting local businesses, we can all make a positive impact and help to build a more inclusive and accepting society.
