Hatchet 101: A Beginner's Guide to Splitting Firewood

Today I learned how to split firewood with a hatchet! I know, I know, it sounds crazy, but it was actually super fun and surprisingly easy.

In the video I watched, Ralph (my mom’s husband) explained that using a hatchet to split firewood is really useful if you're planning on going camping or somewhere where it's below 65 degrees Fahrenheit. As someone who grew up in the cityscape of San Antonio, I never would have thought to bring a hatchet with me on a camping trip, but now I know how useful it can be!

The video is filled with helpful tips and tricks, like how to choose which pieces of wood to split and how to hold the hatchet for the most control. I also learned about something called a "blood circle," which is a safety circle used by scouts to prevent injury when using sharp tools. Basically it is. way to make sure that nobody is close enough for anything to happen to them.

Overall, it was really cool learning how to split firewood with a hatchet, and I can't wait to try it out on my next camping trip. If you're interested in checking out the video for yourself.
