Trail Training for Grand Canyon Rim to Rim

After four years of applying, the day has finally arrived for Austin and me to embark on the long-awaited hike through the Grand Canyon, Rim to Rim from the South to North. The adventure promised to be an “experience of a lifetime“ and one that I had been looking forward to for a while.

Whether it was from South to North, or North to South, didn’t matter so much to me so long as we were able to get approved for the campgrounds so that we could finally take in the magnificent views and surroundings in person. I was looking forward to enjoying the hike without feeling overly strained, as the plan was to train (a lot). And since we were going to have three days to do make the entire journey, it didn’t feel impossible, and there would be more than enough time to enjoy it all. What I thought was incredible was that runners sometimes run the entire route (there and back) one or more times per day!

Despite being excited, I was aware that the hike would not be a “walk in the park“. To prepare for the journey, some training was necessary. The longest day of the hike would be 12 miles, so I had to be physically ready for the long road ahead, so to speak.

All in all, I was ready to take on the Grand Canyon, Rim to Rim, and cherish every moment of the adventure. It promised to be an unforgettable experience filled with breathtaking views, unique wildlife, and elevation-heavy terrain.
