Experience with Online Spanish Tutoring

I've been studying Spanish for a while, but I wanted to improve my speaking skills. I tried a language exchange, but it wasn't the right fit for me. That's why I decided to find a tutor. I found my Spanish teacher on a website called Lockdown Language Exchange. It was created to help people find tutoring positions during the lockdown. Unfortunately, the website is shutting down now, but there are other platforms like Italki that can be used to find language instructors.

I feel like I really lucked out on finding Alfonso. He's organized, understanding, and kind. During our lessons, we talk about whatever's going on in the news or our lives, and he makes sure that I do most of the talking. If there's ever a pause in conversation, he's quick to notice it and bring up a game or an exercise that we can do.

I'm very self-conscious about my Spanish grammar. Eventually, something comes out of my mouth, but sometimes it's right, and sometimes it's wrong. I plan on posting more videos on the tools that I'm using to learn Spanish, but as far as speaking is concerned, Alfonso and I have a lesson at least once a week, and then I speak quite a bit to myself.

I think no matter which dialect I chose, there were always going to be colloquial or regional words and phrases. So I chose Spain Spanish because I love the accents. I think they're beautiful. I asked Alfonso how I've improved over the past nine months, and he said that I've improved a lot. I'm able to speak about everything and use very specific vocabulary that he hasn't taught me. It's because I've been learning, reading, and listening to audiobooks in Spanish.

I'm excited to continue taking lessons with Alfonso because I'm sure it will help me improve my skills even more. Let me know in the comments what your experience has been with a language teacher or what platforms you use to find language instructors. I might be interested in learning Japanese, Portuguese, or Russian next! Or maybe even Arabic or French. Who knows? The possibilities are endless!

What was your experience learning a language in school?
